                Janicke - The Back story

                Picture
I was born in Norway, raised in Adelaide and I now reside in Melbourne, Victoria. I have had a mixed upbringing combining my mother's Irish Australian background with my father's Norwegian heritage, add to that travels to exotic places like, France, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Turkey and that makes for a varied life.

I have been creating art my whole life but it wasn't until about 3 years ago that I took a leap of faith, quit my teaching job and went head first into my art.  It hasn't been an easy road with various jobs, minimal pay and many lessons learnt. However with a determination to succeed and a huge amount of support from my partner Tim I am now exhibiting almost monthly and earning more money with a vue to conqure the world, artistically speaking.

                Janicke - The Artist

My art work is interpretive and modern combining textures, patterns and intense colours to create responses to my environment and memory. Colour is dripped, sprayed, scraped and splashed onto the canvas and then blocked out with bold whites and muted colours to create the final image. There are recurring themes such as people, flora and fauna and buildings that emerge from my work.

                Janicke - The Environment

I am passionate about my art and the environment and my ambition is to continue to limit further environmental impact and to pass on this message to current and future artists. I believe my experience as a teacher will help me in the future to mentor artists like myself so they too can prosper and contribute to society in a meaningful way.

                Janicke - The Teacher

I have been working as a primary teacher for the past seven years in various public and private schools teaching across all subject matters.  It was in my fourth year teaching that I decided to quit my full time job as an art teacher and take up part time work relief teaching so I could focus on my art.
